Press Coverage
June 7, 2008 San Diego, CA – An international group of scientists, economists, business experts and academics has joined the movement to making a difference in reversing climate change. The Friends of Philippine Science is an organization of science and technology professionals who have a common passion – the need to encourage and discover alternative energy sources leveraging the vast natural wealth found in their native land. The group is scheduled to sponsor the PSHS Global Forum on the Environment beginning in Fall 2008.
"At first we were surprised at how easily our mission and objectives fit," said the group's CEO, Joseph Hong. "We wanted to do something meaningful in the field of climate change and we did not have to look hard. The Philippines is blessed naturally with solar, wind, geothermal and ocean current energy sources. In addition, there is the potential to develop second generation biomass fuels given our native country's agricultural background." Hong is a circuit design expert based in Silicon Valley, and has authored several United States patents.
The PSHS Global Forum on the Environment is a world-wide initiative being sponsored by the Friends of Philippine Science. Dr. Pauline Lerma-Nolledo, a medical oncologist and hematologist from New Jersey who is also the group's Chief Human Resources Officer, explained: "As part of our overall mission, several Global Forums focusing on alternative energy and related technologies will be held in various parts of the United States and the Philippines. We encourage experts in the fields of climate change and alternative energy to participate as speakers in the Global Forums or as advisers to our planning team. We also encourage all supporters who are passionate about the environment to volunteer for the Global Forum."
The PSHS Global Forum on the Environment is anticipated to reach an audience of about 20,000 supporters throughout the world, by using webcasting technology to transmit the Global Forums over the Internet. Chief Technology Officer Jose Gorres, an IT systems administrator from New Jersey, said: "Internet media streaming technology makes it possible to bring experts closer to the people. Our goal is to make it easy and affordable, so that we can empower other groups to use this model as a way of increasing the public's awareness on a wide range of subjects."
